The influence of the record-shattering juggernaut Star Wars: The Force Awakens has extended beyond the box office and toy aisles to video games.

Citing industry analysts, Fortune reports Star Wars games generated more than $1 billion in sales this year, led by Star Wars Battlefront, which has sold an estimated 12 million copies since its launch in mid-November.

"Star Wars Battlefront" Expected to Ship 13 Million Copies

Published by Electronic Arts, the game allows players to immerse themselves in epic Star Wars battles, firing blasters, riding speeder bikes and even piloting TIE Fighters and the Millennium Falcon in locations ranging from Hoth to Endor to Tatooine.

Add to the performance of Battlefront an estimated $200 million in sales of Star Wars playsets for Disney Infinity, the toy-to-life game that's propelled the entertainment giant to the top of the category.

Plus, there are the mobile games: EA's Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, Konami's Star Wars: Force Collection and Disney's Star Wars: Commander-Worlds in Conflict generated a combined $285,000 in just the first day following the release of The Force Awakens.
