Introduced in Legends through Dark Horse Star Wars comics before becoming a staple character through The Clone Wars in canon, Asajj Ventress is a character who went from slave to Jedi Padawan to Sith assassin to Nightsister to bounty hunter through her life. Her tenure in The Clone Wars made her a character who fans loved to see, with the novel Dark Disciple only serving to improve her legacy.

Asajj is a character who is very proficient with a lightsaber, usually two. She is quick, cunning, and has held her own against some of the very best. Throughout her life, Asajj wielded five lightsabers that we know of, and they are great lightsabers at that. Here are ten facts you may not have known about Asajj Ventress' lightsabers.

10 HER SECOND BELONGED TO HER MASTER

As seen in The Clone Wars, Asajj Ventress was rescued and protected by a stranded Jedi Knight, Ky Narec. Narec trained Ventress in the Force and lightsaber combat as the two protected Rattatak from pirate marauders.

During this time, Asajj wielded a green-bladed lightsaber. One time when the pair were battling pirates, Narec was shot in the back and killed. Asajj then adopted his lightsaber as her own, kicking off her fall to the Dark Side and her first use of dual-wielding lightsabers.

9 HOW SHE GOT HER RED LIGHTSABERS

Asajj Ventres is not known for wielding green lightsabers like that of a Jedi, however. Ventress's most well-known lightsabers are the pair of red bladed lightsabers she uses throughout The Clone Wars as a Sith Assassin and as an apprentice to Count Dooku.

In canon, once Ventress used her and Ky Narec's lightsaber to eliminate the pirates on Rattatak, she ruled the planet, which caught the attention of Dooku. Dooku met with Ventress, and following this, Ventress traveled to Dooku's palace on Serenno and accepted his offer to be his apprentice, to which he then gave her the two famous red lightsabers.

8 THEIR LEGENDS ORIGIN STORY

A lot of the history of the lightsabers is currently unknown in canon, such as where Dooku got them and how long he had them. In Legends, though, this history is a bit more filled in, and while Dooku still presents the sabers to Ventress, there is more to it.

The lightsabers used to be owned by Komari Vosa, a fallen Jedi who turned to the Dark Side of the Force and began using the famous curved hilted lightsabers. Darth Sidious ordered Darth Tyrannus to kill her, and so Dooku hired Jango Fett, and the pair killed Vosa in 32BBY, Dooku took her lightsabers and gave them to Ventress whose Jedi lightsabers were destroyed by Dooku in Clone Wars (2003).

7 HER LAST LIGHTSABER

In The Clone Wars, Asajj Ventress loses her two lightsabers, when Barris Offee steals them in an attempt to frame Ventress for the blowing up of the Jedi Council.

In the novel Dark Disciple though, Ventress has a new lightsaber. It is a single-bladed, cylindrical saber, which is unique in the fact it has a rare yellow kyber crystal, something not familiar in canon, seen mainly from Jedi Temple Guards.

6 WHERE SHE GOT THE YELLOW SABER FROM

Most Jedi obtain lightsabers through their creation. Sith created their lightsabers, bleeding the crystal to give it its red lightsaber. Asajj did not get her yellow lightsaber via conventional methods, though.

In Dark Disciple, the yellow lightsaber used by Ventress turns out to have been a purchase made by her on the black market. Yellow kyber crystals are scarce, so it begs the question of how and from where the seller got the lightsaber.

5 MAUL HAS THE YELLOW LIGHTSABER HILT

Ventress does not survive the events of Dark Disciple. On she and Vos's mission to assassinate Count Dooku, Dooku ends up killing Ventress when she sacrifices herself for Vos.

Asajj's yellow saber has not been on screen, but there is official concept art for it, so fans know how it looks. In the season seven trailer for The Clone Wars, Maul is seen with a new double-bladed lightsaber. With inspection, Asajj's hilt is visible as part of Maul's lightsaber, which will likely get explored in season seven.

4 ALL HER HILTS MIRROR HER MASTERS

When Ky Narec is training Ventress, she wields a cylindrical green-bladed lightsaber. Ky Narec also wields a cylindrical green-bladed lightsaber, and the two are incredibly similar in every aspect.

When Ventress then moves on to her two red lightsabers, they have a curved hilt - relatively rare for a lightsaber - just like Count Dooku's are. While the designs are different, the two sabers are the same in that regard. Ventress's lightsabers are the same as her masters until she is on her own, and her lightsaber is singular and rare.

3 FIRST SPLIT SABER IN CANON

There are many types of lightsabers in the Star Wars franchise. Single-bladed, double-bladed, dual wield, curved hilt, saber pikes, shoto sabers, but one of the rarest in the canon, is the split saber.

Split sabers are a double-bladed lightsaber that can split to form two single-bladed lightsabers. Ventress is one of the only people in canon to wield such a saber, with the other of note being Cal Kestis.

2 RED SABERS FORM AN S

The split saber in the hands of Cal Kestis forms either two dual-wield, single-bladed lightsabers. Since Asajj Ventress's lightsabers are curved in their hilt, though, they are slightly different.

The two join to form an S-shaped double-bladed lightsaber. The joined lightsaber is bizarre, but also extremely competent in Asajj Ventress's use, considering her sharp speed and capabilities with the saber.

1 EVERY NEW LIGHTSABER FORCED A CHANGE IN LIGHTSABER FORM

With all five of Asajj Ventress's owned lightsabers, there comes a massive change in her life. She went from one lightsaber to two, moving from Jedi learner to a revenge filled assassin of pirates. Then moved on two dual-wield red lightsabers that indicate her move to the Dark Side. Before finally moving on to a single-bladed yellow saber in her times as a mercenary.

What also has to change is how Ventress utilizes these blades. When she was a padawan learner, she was likely only taught in basic combat. Then, when she took on Ky Narec's saber, she mastered the form of Jar'Kai, which is is the dual-wield form of combat. Under Dooku, though, she was trained in form II, Makashi, the form of which Dooku was a master. She was not as skilled under Makashi, so when she eventually went back to a single-blade for the first time in years, she again had to adapt, still utilizing Makashi, but with no Jar'Kai to use as a backup.
