Andor serves as a prequel to Rogue One and centers on the eponymous Rebellion soldier Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna. He's joined by several familiar Star Wars characters, including Genevieve O'Reilly's Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera.

"You’ll definitely see familiar faces," Luna said when production on Andor wrapped in September 2021. "I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen [Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending. To be honest, it’s been such a blessing to do this job and to do it under these circumstances. I had the chance to work with a team that I couldn’t be more proud of and admire more. It’s a hard-core moment to be out there shooting, and we were really lucky. We’re done with the shooting now and getting it ready for audiences to see it."

In April 2020, it was announced that Tony Gilroy had boarded Andor as showrunner after being tapped to rewrite the pilot in October 2019. Gilroy not only co-wrote Rogue One but also oversaw the film's extensive reshoots after Lucasfilm was unhappy with the version from director Gareth Edwards.

Beyond the fact that it takes place five years before the events of Rogue One, the plot of Andor remains unclear. It's also worth noting that despite Andor and the hacked Imperial droid K-2SO being seemingly inseparable in Rogue One, Alan Tudyk won't reprise the role for the Disney+ series. "They're shooting it right now, I'm not in it," he said in January 2021. "But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I'll end up in there."

Andor has yet to receive a premiere date.
