Anakin Skywalker was one of the main characters in the prequel Star Wars trilogy and the primary antagonist of the original series. Despite his service as a Jedi, there were signs of his pending corruption since his childhood - flaws that Mace Windu and other detractors were more than eager to mention.

He embodies what it means to be a flawed Jedi- for better and for worse. Through identifying Skywalker's strengths and contrasting them with his weaknesses, we can approximate how responsible he was for his descent into the dark side and the culpability the Jedi Order had in his corruption.

10 Weakness: His Presentation Was Unbecoming Of A Jedi

Anakin's presentation often fell short of the ideal for being a Jedi. He did not possess their serenity, nor was he as keen on allowing his enemies to live after he had defeated them (a standard he would hypocritically hold Mace Windu to after the fall of Lord Sidious).

Further, he referred to the clones more as his friends than from a position of commander and would frequently have to be reminded of his order's own edicts by his padawan, Ahsoka Tano. None of these considerations reflected positively on his character.

9 Strength: He Was A Brilliant Duelist

Anakin Skywalker was a duelist whose talents arguably eclipsed Obi-Wan's. This was demonstrated through his victory over Count Dooku in spite of the sith's own triumph against Kenobi during their battle on the Separatist flagship.

His failure at Mustafar can be attributed to the ideal terrain advantage that the Jedi had over him. Otherwise, their battle was phenomenally even, with Skywalker applying pressure to his former master throughout the majority of the encounter. Anakin's skills only increased with every mission against the Separatists he fought.

8 Weakness: His Aggression Can Be Exploited

When discussing Anakin's battle with Kenobi, it's impossible not to mention the ultimate reason for his loss; his aggression. Though Skywalker's pugnacious tactics sometimes serve him well in overwhelming his opponent, it has hindered him on an equal (if not greater) number of occasions.

His headstrong attitude resulted in the loss of his hand during his first encounter with Dooku. Further, if he had been more responsible on Mustafar, he would have avoided being mutilated, devising a strategy to confront his former mentor on another day.

7 Strength: His Open-Mindedness Grants Him Perspective Other Jedi Don't See

As maniacal as Palpatine might be, his sentiments are at least partially correct. There are serious flaws inherent to the Jedi Order and ones that might better serve their interests and values if ignored.

For instance, the Jedi are reticent to call upon the dark side to assist others in spite of how frequently it has been demonstrated to be a superior form of the Force. Anakin's absence of the order's standard inhibitions allows him to reach pragmatic conclusions that might be beyond the understanding of many of his peers.

6 Weakness: His Gullibile Nature Destroyed His Life

Anakin's main reason for joining the dark side was to save the ones he loved - specifically, Padme. He did not want her to suffer the same fate as his mother and would deign to any means in order to protect (and possibly even extend) her life.

However, he had no reason to trust Palpatine and quickly abandoned his reservations after Mace Windu prepared to kill him. This was in spite of the fact that Anakin himself had told and summoned the councilor to apprehend the villain. In the end, he would lose both his way of life and his paramour for his gullible nature.

5 Strength: He Has Boundless Force Sensitivity

As "the Chosen One," Anakin had an absurdly high midichlorian count that made him a warrior with endless potential. As a result, he was phenomenally attractive both to the Jedi and sith - however, only the latter was willing to fully embrace him.

Unfortunately, his capacity to channel the Force would be limited after his limbs were severed and he was placed in a metallic body just to survive. Nonetheless, he was still one of the most talented Force practitioners in the entire galaxy.

4 Weakness: He's Ruled By His Emotions

Unlike most other Jedi, Anakin was not only subject to his emotions but also completely dominated by them. After he learned of his mother's fate, he committed genocide against an entire clan of Sand People to properly avenge her.

Additionally, he was prone to outbursts in the midst of the Jedi Council, ones that were not destined to bear productive results. This made his detractors' claims of instability more credible and ironically reduced his chances of becoming a master- as he had desperately wished.

3 Strength: He Is A Superb Pilot

Anakin was a superb pilot whose skills applied more than merely to spacecrafts alone. He was able to win a professional pod racing competition in spite of the fact that he was competing against far more experienced opponents. Not to mention the fact that his own vehicle was sabotaged at the beginning of the contest.

Additionally, he was responsible for blowing up a Separatist cruiser using only a standard bomber. This speaks to his utility not only as a Jedi but also as a practical warrior of an advanced era.

2 Weakness: He Was Frequently Irresponsible

Anakin's irresponsibility can at least partially be attributed to his age. During the foray into Geonosis, he rushed headlong to save Padme instead of considering the most prudent course of action.

As a consequence, he had his lightsaber destroyed and was promptly captured by Jango Fett. Poetically, his desire to save Amidala would reduce her chances of survival, as both of them were now forced to wait for Mace Windu and the clone army to prevent their demise. His irresponsibility was proven again when he choked Padme for siding with Obi-Wan and deflecting blame for his own actions.

1 Strength: He Has Inexhaustible Courage & Tenacity

Regardless of whose side he's on, Anakin has inexhaustible courage and tenacity. His resolve allows him to see any mission he is tasked with through, whether or not he is successful.

Skywalker was bold enough to storm the Jedi Temple with only standard clones to assist him. Considering how effortlessly his constituents were able to slice apart battle droids (who were comparable to their Kamino counterparts), his unwavering conviction and spirit in the face of impossible odds renders him an ideal warrior and harbinger of his master's will.
