The Star Wars universe is often fraught with tragedy, especially in the case of Anakin Skywalker. However, a new piece of fan art envisions what would have happened if Anakin had never become Darth Vader.

Posted on Reddit by user Onehealthgaming, the photo features an older version of Anakin and his wife Padme alongside their children Luke and Leia. The photo bears the hilarious caption of "Anakin took some nyquil and didn't have dreams that night," referring to the prophetic nightmares that Anakin suffers in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

In the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Anakin was recruited into the Jedi Order by Qui-Gon Jinn, who believed he was the "Chosen One" who would bring balance to the Force. Anakin soon fell in love with and married Senator Padme Amidala in defiance of the Jedi's practice of denying personal attachment. Tormented by visions of Padme dying in childbirth, Anakin was corrupted by Darth Sidious and became the Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Hayden Christensen played Anakin in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, with the late David Prowse portraying Darth Vader's physical performance and James Earl Jones providing his voice in the original trilogy. Christensen will reprise his role as Vader in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, reuniting with Ewan McGregor who will reprise his role as the titular Jedi Master.
