WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Age of Resistance - Poe Dameron #1, by Tom Taylor, Ramon Rosanas, GURU-eFX and Travis Lanham, on sale now.

In 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, fans were introduced to Laura Dern's Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, who assumed command of the Raddus after General Leia Organa was incapacitated following an attack by the First Order. Although she spent the majority of her time onscreen butting heads with Poe Dameron, whom she deemed a reckless "flyboy," she later made the ultimate sacrifice by hyperdrive-ramming the Raddus into Supreme Leader Snoke's Mega-class Star Dreadnought Supremacy.

However, even though Poe's dialogue in The Last Jedi made it clear he had no idea who Holdo was before their first encounter on the Raddus, it turns out the two actually met not only before Episode VIII but before Poe even joined the Resistance.

In Star Wars: Age of Resistance - Poe Dameron #1, we begin with a Poe who's far removed from the version seen in the saga films. Instead, this Poe is the commander of the Rapier Squadron for the New Republic Defense Fleet. Nevertheless, the headstrong pilot makes it no secret that he's beginning to feel disillusioned, hungry for something more than the New Republic has to offer.

Before long, the Rapier Squadron is called into action when the head of a protocol droid that contains valuable intel is stolen. They quickly discover the culprit's ship lying in wait and a chase ensues.

Upon reaching a dangerous asteroid field called the Lost Souls, Poe orders the rest of his squadron to remain behind as he continues to pursue the rogue ship. Much to his surprise, though, the ship rescues him after he's nearly swallowed by an exogorth, resulting in mutual respect as they then weave in and out of asteroids.

Working together, Poe and the rogue ship are able to emerge from the Lost Souls unharmed. However, the ship then fires on Poe's X-Wing just enough to leave him stranded until the rest of the Rapier Squadron can retrieve him.

"The only people afraid of words getting out are people with something to hide, flyboy," Poe hears over the radio as the mysterious voice explains the incompetence of the New Republic in light of a new threat that's rising (i.e. the First Order). Then, as the rogue ship prepares to make the jump to hyperspace, we see it's being piloted by Nien Nunb, and standing right beside him, donning a familiar purple dress, is Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo.

That being said, while Poe may not have known anything about Holdo before The Last Jedi, Holdo was already well aware of the "flyboy" she was dealing with.
