If you were hoping to return to theaters to see Obi-Wan Kenobi in his prime, you're out of luck ...  at least for now. Long before Disney bought Lucasfilm, the latter announced it would re-release 3D versions of the movies series in episodic order. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D debuted last February, with Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith set to appear Sept. 20, 2013 and Oct. 11, 2013 respectively. But with plans for Star Wars: Episode VII now in full swing, resources are being re-diverted.

“Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy we will now focus 100% of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans,” Lucasfilm announced. “We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.”

As sites like Hero Complex point out, the Phantom Menace re-release made just $43 million, though it did help push the film's total earnings over the $1 billion threshold. With Michael Arndt working on the script along with recently announced director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm is looking to capitalized on future ventures.
