Paramount+ has officially ordered new seasons for multiple Star Trek shows.
The ViacomCBS-owned streamer announced today that it has renewed Star Trek: Discovery for Season 5, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for Season 2 and the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks for Season 4.
Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 is currently on its midseason break. The season will return for its second half on Thursday, Feb. 10. Meanwhile, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Season 2 renewal comes ahead of its Season 1 premiere on Thursday, May 5. Like Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Lower Decks has also received a preemptive renewal.
Lower Decks wrapped up its second season back in October and is currently awaiting the debut of its third. While Paramount+ has not revealed an official premiere date for Lower Decks Season 3, it has confirmed that the animated series will return sometime this summer. Naturally, at this stage, it is too early to well when exactly Discovery Season 5, Strange New Worlds Season 2 or Lower Decks Season 4 will hit Paramount+.
Elsewhere, Star Trek: Prodigy recently returned for Episode 6 on Thursday, Jan. 6. The 10-episode first half of Prodigy Season 1 will air new installments weekly through Thursday, Feb. 3. The 10-episode second half will premiere on Paramount+ sometime later this year. Prodigy has already been renewed for Season 2. Meanwhile, Star Trek: Picard is slated to premiere its own second season on Thursday, March 3. Picard Season 3 is currently in production, with the show having been officially renewed some time ago.
"Four years ago, we made a promise to grow Star Trek into something it had never been before, and thanks to the incredibly hard work done by our many talented showrunners, writers, and directors, along with the extraordinary support of CBS Studios and Paramount+, we're keeping our word," said Star Trek franchise executive producer Alex Kurtzman. "Now our current shows are set up for the future as we work to build Trek's next phase of programming for years to come."
Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 returns to Paramount+ on Feb. 10. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 premieres on the platform on May 5, followed by Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 in summer 2022. All three shows have been picked up for additional seasons.
