Of the many fictional languages introduced into pop culture, Klingon, from the Star Trek franchise, is arguably one of the most famous; even if not a lot of people can actually speak it, most people know what it is. And yet, the cast of Star Trek: Prodigy found out that it isn't easy to translate it.
Speaking at Paramount+'s animation panel for ComicCon@Home, actor Ella Purnell and executive producer Dan Hageman explained how difficult it is to translate Klingon. While discussing her character, Gwyn, Purnell explained, "It's a language... at one point I think me, [Kevin Hageman] and Dan were actually typing into Google Translate to try and get the correct Klingon." Dan Hageman added, "But we learned though that Google Translate isn't quite right, so we actually got an actual Klingon translator."
When asked where the EPs found such a translator for the show, Kevin Hageman explained, "We discovered that there's a lot of different people out there who've been translating Klingon. But there's a little inaccuracies and a little... differences and stuff." He continued, "I believe Star Trek now, officially, has their own official Klingon translator and we are following her and what she says to a tee."
