Star Trek: Picard's third and final season has a premiere date.

Announced as a part of the Star Trek Day celebrations, Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard will be embarking on his final adventure on Feb. 16, 2023. The release date announcement was paired with a new teaser for the series, hinting at what the beloved captain and his crew will be up against. The final season, which will comprise 10 episodes, will see the return of several iconic The Next Generation characters including William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby), Worf (Michael Dorn) and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) among several other fan-favorites.

While little is known about Picard Season 3's plot, showrunner Terry Matalas has promised that the show will answer many questions left lingering from The Next Generation. "I didn’t want to make anything that they didn’t want to make… They all have big things to do," Matalas said. "We all meet them and find out where they are now. And some of those answers as to what they're doing now are unexpected. So I wanted them to be happy and have input… They’ve lived with these characters."

Picard's Tying Up Loose Ends

As for the show's star, Stewart has noted that while fans will be given some answers, the final season won't clarify everything. "Followers of Picard will find that we get to the very end of Season 3, and the resolution is unexpected and questionable," Stewart said. "And I'm thrilled about that because it leaves a question mark hanging over his head."

While the third season may leave fans wanting more, Stewart also explained that as far as he knows, there are no plans to develop further chapters in Picard's story. "Now, I'm not saying in three years' time or 10 years' time, there will be another series and I'll be back again tending in my grapes in the vineyard," Stewart continued. "But I've had some fallings out with some of our people, because they look on this as a closure that is coming up, and I don't."

While Stewart has expressed his excitement for Season 3, the acclaimed actor has noted one of his regrets when it comes to Picard Season 2. "My only regret is that once Jean-Luc revealed those hidden facts about his childhood to us, I almost wished we could immediately put him back on the bridge of the Enterprise to hear and see what the impact this revelation had on him," Stewart explained. But we couldn't do that," he said.
