The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D was a Galaxy-class starship. It was also the flagship of the Starfleet and the fifth ship to carry the Enterprise name. Captain Jean-Luc Picard famously commanded the ship.

The U.S.S. Enterprise-D was destroyed after an attack by a group of Klingons who breached the warp core, causing part of the ship to crash on the planet Veridian III.

The original "Blue Skies" trailer provided some hints to another Star Trek return: Data. In Nemesis, Data implanted his memory engrams into B-4's neural pathways. As Picard mourned his friend, B-4 began to the hum the "Blue Skies" tune, hinting at the character's resurrection in his body.

Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. The series is set to premiere on CBS All Access Jan. 23, 2020.
