Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas discussed Season 3's new hero ship, the USS Titan-A.

Picard Season 3's new trailer offered fans a sneak peek at the series' new hero ship. In a recent interview with Trek Movie, Picard's showrunner talked about the designs of the series' new spaceship. "So, in the trailer, you see our hero ship of season three. It's actually a class that's called, in Starfleet slang, the Neo-Constitution class or Constitution III," Matalas said before mentioning that the ship was designed by fan Bill Krause. "Let's say there are a few fan-designed ships that are canonized this season in the fleet," Matalas revealed.

The showrunner explained the designs for the USS Titan-A were heavily influenced by previous Titans due to the ship's connection to the plot. "So, the idea was that after the Luna class's legacy run with Riker, that ship was damaged and retired. Some of the systems were refit and put into this new Titan, the Titan-A," Matalas explained.

The showrunner included a brief history of spaceships to give fans an idea of where the Titan-A came from. "You'll see in the season, that in the observation room, we honor the previous Titans that have come before," he said, "You'll see a gold model of the Luna class USS Titan as seen in Lower Decks, which was designed by Sean Tourangeau. And we even see a previous incarnation from the TOS movie era. We'll see that there was a Titan that was a bit of a Constitution class as well, the original Shangri-La class [designed by Bill Krause]."

The Next Generation Is Returning

Picard Season 3 is set to premiere on Paramount+ on Feb. 16, 2023, and will serve as the last installment of the Picard series. The 10-episode season will see the return of iconic The Next Generation characters, including Patrick Stewart's fan-favorite Jean-Luc Pichard, William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby, Worf (Michael Dorn) and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), among others.

The plot of the upcoming final season of Picard is still under wraps, but Matalas promised fans that the show would answer many lingering questions from The Next Generation. Stewart did, however, chip in on what to expect from the new season, teasing fans about an unexpected final resolution. "Followers of Pichard will find that we get to the very end of Season 3, and the resolution is unexpected and questionable," he said, "and I'm thrilled about that because it leaves a question mark hanging over his head."
