Seven of Nine was introduced in Star Trek: Voyager as a human woman rescued from the Borg by Voyager's crew. As the character regained her humanity, she entered a romantic relationship with Voyager's first officer Chakotay before the starship returned home to Earth in the series finale.

The character's inclusion in Picard marks the first time the two are seen together on-screen, with Jean-Luc Picard having his own troubled past with the Borg. It is currently unclear what Seven of Nine's role in the series will be, but it spells ominous things for Chakotay given her hardened appearance.
