Paramount+ debuted a new trailer for the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard at this year's New York Comic Con, featuring the return of fan-favorite characters from The Next Generation.

Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard sees Stewart's iconic title character and members of his old crew taking on Amanda Plummer's Vadic, the alien captain of the warship Shrike who seeks the destruction of the United Federation of Planets. Among the familiar faces of Picard's crew are LeVar Burton's Geordi La Forge, Michael Dorn's now-pacifistic Worf, Jonathan Frakes' William T. Riker, Gates McFadden's Dr. Beverly Crusher, Marina Sirtis' Deanna Troi and Brent Spiner, whose season 3 character was revealed to be that of Lore. According to the trailer, a distress call from Crusher will be the crew's call to action.

New Cast Members Are Joining Picard Season 3

In addition to Plummer, Mica Burton and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut are new to the cast for Picard season 3. Sharpe Chestnut will play Ensign Sidney La Forge, the eldest daughter of Burton's Geordi La Forge and helmsman of the U.S.S. Titan. Ensign Alandra La Forge, Geordi's youngest daughter, is played by LeVar Burton's real-life daughter Mica Burton. Also returning is series regular Michelle Hurd, Star Trek: Voyager's Jeri Ryan and Daniel Davis as The Next Generation's Professor Moriarty.

Though Picard season 3 sees the return of many Next Generation cast members, Frakes' Riker is said to play a key role in the show's final outing. "Picard is very much foremost and at the center of everything in this. But Riker I would say, Riker and Beverly I would say, are very close number twos," showrunner Terry Matalas said recently. "But there is a lot of Riker, so if you are a fan of Will Riker, you are going to get a healthy dose of Riker. And some Riker you have never seen before. Some Riker you always wanted to see before. You are going to get a lot of things you always wanted for Christmas."

Matalas has also said that season 3 of Picard will provide unexpected answers to some lingering questions from The Next Generation. This echoes recent comments from Stewart, who called the show's ending "unexpected and questionable," and said he was "thrilled about that because it leaves a question mark hanging over [Picard's] head."

Picard and the Enterprise's final voyage begins on Feb. 16, 2023. In the meantime, fans can stream the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard on Paramount+.
