The highly anticipated Star Trek television series starring Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard finally has a title.
During its Upfront presentation on Thursday, CBS revealed the CBS All Access series' official title: Star Trek: Picard. Following the announcement, the streaming service's Instagram account posted a brief video unveiling the series' title, with the classic Federation badge taking the place of the "a" in "Picard."
Picard will see Stewart reprise the fan-favorite role he portrayed on Star Trek: The Next Generation for seven seasons and four films. While details about the project has largely been kept under wraps, the series will serve as a sequel of sorts to TNG, taking place 18 years after the events of the Star Trek: Nemesis film. It will examine how the character has changed since he was the Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D.
The series began production in April and will also star Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Isa Briones in series regular roles. While we don't yet know if the series will feature appearances from other members of the TNG cast, Jonathan Frakes confirmed that he would be involved with the series as the director of episodes three and four.
The first season of Star Trek: Picard will run for 10 episodes.
Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Santiago Cabrera Michelle Hurd and Evan Evagora and is set to debut later this year on CBS All Access.
