Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner won't be the only familiar faces appearing on Star Trek: Picard; actors Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis will also be reprising their The Next Generation roles as William Riker and Deanna Troi, respectively.

Frakes and Sirtis' return was announced during the Picard panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, and was quickly commented on by the stars. "I’ve managed to keep this secret for months but now I can confirm, Troi and Riker are back!!!" Sirtis said when retweeting the new Picard trailer from Patrick Stewart's Twitter account.

"So glad the cat is out of the bag," Frakes commented on his Twitter. Earlier this year, it was announced that Frakes would direct two episodes of the series, but his return as Riker had been kept a secret.

The producers of Picard had teased the possibility of The Next Generation appearances, but said they did not want to throw in cameos just for the sake of fan service. Judging by that comment, it should be expected that Riker and Troi will factor into the story in a significant way.

The last time Riker and Troi appeared on screen was in Star Trek: Nemesis (2003), where they were newlyweds starting a new chapter in their lives as Riker became the captain of USS Titan.

Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, and Harry Treadaway. The series is set to premiere in 2020.
