During the Star Trek Universe panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, CBS officially unveiled the principle cast and characters of the upcoming adult animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.The CBS All-Access comedy will follow several members of a support crew who serve on the lower levels of the U.S.S. Cerritos, one of the less important ships in Starfleet, in a series co-created by Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan.
The series will star Tawny Newsom as Ensign Beckett Mariner, Jack Quaid as Ensign Brad Boimler, Noel Wells as the alien Ensign Tendi and Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherhord, who has a large cybernetic apparatus on his head.
The show will also feature Dawnn Lewis as Captain Carol Freeman, Jerry O'Connell as Commander Jack Ransom, Fred Tatasciore as Lieutenant Shaxs and Doctor TâAna, voiced by Gillian Vigman.
An image of the series Star Trek: The Next Generation-style Holodeck was also revealed.
The first season of the series will last for 10 episodes and will take place in the year 2380, after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis.
The series is only one of multiple Star Trek cartoons in the works. A more serious, kid-friendly show is also being produced for Nickelodeon.
Starring Tawny Newsom, Jack Quaid, Noel Wells and Eugene Cordero, Star Trek: Lower Decks will premiere on CBS All-Access in 2020.
