In an interview with The Huffington Post, Urban confessed that, while he doesn't know much about the project, he remains excited about it.
"This is a project that I have no information about, really..." he said. "I haven’t read a script for it, but I understand the basic concept of it."
"I think Quentin Tarantino doing that film would be phenomenal..." Urban continued. "He is definitely one of the most exciting filmmakers that’s currently working and if he has an interest in making a ‘Star Trek’ film, I think the studio would be insane not to let him do that."
This isn't the first time Urban has gone on the record regarding Tarantino's Star Trek movie. "You shouldn’t worry that it is going to be full of obscenity and stuff," Urban said in 2018. "He wants an R-rating to really make those beats of consequence land. If it’s not PG, if someone gets sucked out into space, which we have all seen before, we might see them get disemboweled first. To me, that was always one of the things I loved about what [original Doctor McCoy actor] DeForest Kelley did. He would actually capture the horror of space. That look in his eyes of sheer terror always struck me when I was a kid."
J.J. Abrams, the director of the 2009 Star Trek film and the 2013 follow-up Star Trek Into Darkness, signed on to produce the Tarantino film and Mark L. Smith was attached as a writer, although little else has been revealed about the project since then.
