About 40 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness footage was screened to international press, and reports from the event are giving fans a better sense of what they can expect from the upcoming J.J. Abrams movie. Be warned, if you want to stay away from spoilers, then don't keep reading.
The first big news that was revealed is the identity of Peter Weller's character. Brazilian website Juado (via SuperHeroHype) reports he portrays "Admiral Marcus," presumably the father of Alice Eve's Carol Marcus. That makes him the former first officer on Captain Robert April's U.S.S. Enterprise, according to SHH.
The other reveal is that Chris Pine's Captain Kirk gets demoted after he violates the Prime Directive on Nibiru by accidentally revealing the Enterprise to the natives. The report contends Bruce Greenwood's Christopher Pike takes over, making Kirk first officer; Zachary Quinto's Spock is sent to a different ship.
Unfortunately there was no further information revealed about Benedict Cumberbatch's villain character, but that's to be expected considering the level of secrecy around his role.
Star Trek Into Darkness, which opens May 17, also stars Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho.
