The latest promo for Star Trek: Discovery's Season 3 finale shows the USS Discovery crew in a "no-win situation."  Stark Trek: Discovery's Season 3 finale will air on Jan. 17.

During the 31-second-long teaser, the crew tries to regain control of the USS Discovery after being infiltrated by Osyraa and the Emerald Chain, as seen on SpoilerTV's YouTube channel.

In one shot, Zareh (Jake Weber) confronts Sonequa Martin-Green' Burnham about transferring Lt. Cmdr. Paul Stamets off of Discovery, which rendered the ship's spore drive inoperable. When Zareh informs Burnham that she's in the middle of a "no-win situation," Burnham responds, "I don't believe in 'nos.'"

Fans have since pointed out that Burnham's "no-win situation" line mirror a similar line made by William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk in 1982's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

In the penultimate episode of Season 3, "There Is a Tide...," Osyraa attempted to negotiate a peace treaty between the Federation and the Emerald Chain to Vance. While Vance considered the treaty, he insisted that Osyraa stand trial for her crimes, which she refused. While the bridge crew escaped with the help of Book and Ryn, Osyraa retaliated by killing Ryn, escalating problems between her faction and the Federation.

Season 3 premiered on Oct. 15 and has been celebrated for paying homage to a variety of Star Trek legacies, including The Next Generation and the original Star Trek series. Earlier in Season 3, the show's writers also included a reference to legendary sci-fi author Ursula LeGuin. In Season 3, Episode 6, "Scavengers," Commander-in-Chief of Starfleet Charles Vance referred to a ship with special significance that was called the USS LeGuin.

Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery also set up the highly-anticipated spinoff series that will focus on the mysterious Section 31. That series has been in the works since 2018 and will find Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou.

Streaming on CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Commander Michael Burnham, Doug Jones as Commander Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Commander Paul Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Ensign Sylvia Tilly, Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber, David Ajala as Cleveland "Book" Booker, Blu del Barrio as Adira, Ian Alexander as Gray, Tig Notaro as Chief Engineer Reno and Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou.
