Welcome aboard, Captain Pike.
During Comic-Con International in San Diego, CBS debuted a brand new, action-packed trailer for Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery. The full length-trailer features plenty of sci-fi action as we witness the arrival of the U.S.S. Enterprise's first Captain, Christopher Pike.
The trailer gives us a new mystery with the curious appearance of seven strange red bursts scattered all over the cosmos -- bursts that are somehow linked to a missing Mister Spock.
Captain Christopher Pike debuted in the Star Trek episode "The Cage," the original pilot of the series. However, when a secondary pilot was shot to re-tool the series, William Shatner's Jim Kirk was now the Captain of the Enterprise. However, the original Star Trek series always operated with the notion that Pike was the first Captain of the spaceship, as did J.J. Abrams reboot film, Star Trek (2009).
Anson Mount, who previously played King Black Bolt in Marvel's Inhumans series, now joins the series as Pike, and it appears as if he will have a very important role to play in Season 2.
Star Trek: Discovery returns with its second season this fall on the CBS All-Access app stateside, on Space in Canada, and Netflix worldwide.
