Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 will receive one more episode than previously announced.
According to TrekCore, actor Anson Mount -- who plays Captain Christopher Pike -- revealed at Christmas With The Captains that Discovery's sophomore season would now last 14 episodes, not 13.
In its first season, Discovery introduced series protagonist Michael Burnham as an orphaned human raised on Vulcan by Spock's parents, Sarek and Amanda Grayson. In a surprise twist, the U.S.S. Enterprise, then under the command of Christopher Pike, appeared in the season finale, teeing up an appearance by Spock. The second season of the hit series will introduce Ethan Peck as a younger version of Spock.
Discovery has proven a major success for CBS All Access, inspiring the streaming service to aim to have at least one Star Trek series running at all times. The network has already started work on a solo series focused on Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard and a Star Trek animated comedy series from Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan. In November, CBS All Access was reportedly looking to create a spinoff series focused on Michelle Yeoh's Emperor Georgiou.
Returning Thursday, Jan. 17, on CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, Mary Chieffo, Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Michelle Yeoh.
