CBS has just released the Comic-Con International trailer for its latest addition to the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Discovery, and it is likely to delight all fans of Gene Roddenberry's vision.

The trailer, which appears to only be available in the US at present, provides plenty of action, with some exotic new aliens, and a Federation star ship being destroyed before our eyes. There is also some intriguing background revealed about the new-look Klingons, whose Empire has apparently been in "disarray for generations."

Fans are treated to a glimpse of Rainn Wilson in action as the mercurial Harry Mudd, and learn that Jason Isaacs' Captain Lorca has apparently found "a new way to fly."

It also seems that Sonequa Martin's Michael Burnham will be responsible for starting some kind of war and that Lorca will be seeking to enlist her help to bring that conflict to an end.

Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns on September 24 with Star Trek: Discovery, which will feature a new ship and original characters, all while “embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.”
