WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, Episode 6, "Scavengers," now streaming on CBS All Access.

In the latest episode of the series, the Star Trek: Discovery's crew is again part of the Federation, and so the titular spaceship is getting upgrades necessary for operating in the 32nd century. However, while the crew is put on standby, Michael Burnham doesn't wait for orders when her friend Cleveland "Book" Booker disappears. With some help from Philippa Georgiou, Burnham travels to the scavenger planet Hunhau to find Book. And while on this mission, Michael and Philippa gain a dangerous new enemy.

During her time stranded in the 32nd century, Michael has spent a considerable amount of time trying to learn all she can about the Burn, the event which saw the simultaneous destruction of all dilithium-powered ships in the universe. In "Scavengers," a message from Book informs her that he has found an old black box that may contain some important information about the explosion. However, Book has disappeared, and although he tells Michael not to come looking for him, she disregards his wishes and tracks him to Hunhau.

Hunhau is a scavenger planet filled with the wreckage of old ships. It's controlled by a female Orion known as Osyraa and her nephew, Tolor, acts as her tyrannical lieutenant. In "Scavengers," Osyraa is only mentioned by name. We know she's behind Tolor, but he is the one who enacts her commands. He guides Burnham and Georgiou on their planet when they pose as wealthy buyers, and he tortures the slaves who work for him and Osyraa as scavengers.

It doesn't take long for Burnham to find Book, who is enslaved, and they form a plan to break out him and everyone else Osyraa and Tolor have imprisoned. Thanks to some careful planning and some destructive firepower, the mission is successful. Book and the slaves are freed, and Georgiou destroys as much as she can of the scavenger operation on Hunhau before they leave.

The rescue mission is a resounding success -- but it also comes with a caveat. We don't know what happened to Osyraa, and given that we have yet to see the character, it's all but certain she survived. Moreover, she now has enemies in Burnham, Georgiou and, by extension, the entire Federation. Osyraa isn't just a random evil Orion overlord; she's the leader of the Emerald Chain, a dangerous alliance of Orions and Andorians that constitutes one of the biggest forces in the 32nd century.

Osyraa was previously mentioned in "Die Trying," and now we have seen more of her torturous reign in "Scavengers." Chances are, she's being built up as an overarching villain this season and, when she finally shows her face, she will prove to be a powerful new enemy for the crew of the Discovery.

Streaming on CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Commander Michael Burnham, Doug Jones as Commander Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Commander Paul Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Ensign Sylvia Tilly, Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber, David Ajala as Cleveland "Book" Booker, Blu del Barrio as Adira, Ian Alexander as Gray, Tig Notaro as Chief Engineer Reno and Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou.
