This week, Star Trek fans got the closest thing to a Riker/Troi reunion since the 2005 series finale of Star Trek: Enterprise. Will Riker and Deanna Troi actors Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis, respectively, snapped a behind-the-scenes pic from the set of Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, which Frakes posted to Twitter.

Now, this isn't any indication of a Riker/Troi appearance on Discovery, of course. Frakes, a veteran TV and film director, will return to helm episodes of Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, while Sirtis (a former The Next Generation cast-mate and close friend to Frakes) seems to have just paid a visit to the Discovery set.

Frakes and Sirtis starred in all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and appeared in its four subsequent films. Their characters made a comeback for the critically-panned Star Trek: Enterprise series finale, "These Are the Voyages..." which was criticized for servicing their characters better than it did the series regulars of Enterprise.

Streaming now on CBS All Access, the first season of Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, Mary Chieffo, Jason Isaacs; production on the 13-episode second season of Discovery is projected to last through November, with a premiere expected in 2019.
