It turns out that Season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery is arriving sooner than expected.Michelle Paradise, a writer and co-executive producer on Discovery, posted a short and sweet tweet: "Season 4, here we go! #StarTrekDiscovery." She included a gif of Discovery activating its spore drive.RELATED: Star Trek: Discovery: What Happened to Burnham in Her Year ‘Away’

CBS has only released three episodes of Discovery so far, with 10 still to come, so hearing news about Season 4 might seem premature. But given that Season 3 has included a compelling soft reboot of the show, with major shakeups to its location and timeline, fans who have enjoyed it and hope to see it explored further, should be overjoyed at the news.

What is not yet clear is whether the announcement is heralding the beginning of production or pre-production. With Season 3 having been delayed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is possible that development and writing on Season 4 could have taken up a large proportion of the team's time in lockdown.

Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Commander Michael Burnham, Doug Jones as Captain Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Commander Paul Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Ensign Sylvia Tilly, Wilson Cruz as Dr. Hugh Culber, Blu del Barrio as Adira, David Ajala as Cleveland “Book” Booker and Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou. Season 3 of the series is currently streaming on CBS All Access every Thursday through Jan. 7, 2021.
