Although Jason Isaacs plays the captain of the titular starship on Star Trek: Discovery, he's been absent from the promotional materials for the upcoming CBS All Access series -- that is, until now.
Entertainment Weekly has debuted the first image of the Harry Potter veteran as Captain Gabriel Lorca on the bridge of the USS Discovery. He's described as "a steely Federation starship captain who’s considered a brilliant military tactician," and he certainly looks the part.
So why isn't the ship's captain the lead on Star Trek: Discovery? Producers have indicated Discovery will be a different kind of Star Trek show. It instead focuses on Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as First Officer Burnham. The trailer also put a heavy emphasis on Michelle Yeoh's Captain Philippa Georgiou of the USS Shenzhou.
Premiering on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and its digital-streaming platform CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, Doug Jones as Science Officer Lt. Saru and Anthony Rapp as astromycologist Lt. Stamets, with Rainn Wilson appearing as Harry Mudd.
