This week the Season 2 finale of Star Trek: Discovery aired, marking the end of actor Anson Mount's time on the CBS All Access series as Captain Christopher Pike.

Ahead of the season finale, Mount posted a farewell on his Instagram account with a photo of himself in-character on the bridge of the USS Discovery, thanking the cast, crew and fans for the opportunity to portray the fan-favorite Starfleet officer.

Reports cropped up last month that Mount and co-star Rebecca Romijn would not return to the series for a third season, having both signed one-year contracts for their respective roles.

While Mount may be leaving Discovery, co-showrunner and executive producer Alex Kurtzman has spoken favorably about working with the actor and expressed interest in potentially developing a spinoff series with Mount reprising his role.
