‘Star Trek’ Cast and Crew Mourn Loss of Anton Yelchin

Following news of the death of actor Anton Yelchin, the stars and producers of “Star Trek” have begun releasing statements of shock, grief and sympathy.

“Anton — You were brilliant. You were kind,” director J.J. Abrams said in a handwritten note posted on Twitter. “You were funny as hell, and supremely talented. And you weren’t here nearly long enough.”

Yelchin, 27, was reportedly discovered at 1:30 a.m. pinned between his car and a brick mailbox attached to the security gate of his San Fernando Valley home.

Paramount Pictures, which will release “Star Trek Beyond” next month, released the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter: “All of us at Paramount join the world in morning the untimely passing of Antony Yelchin. As a member of the ‘Star Trek’ family, he was beloved by so many and he will missed by all. We share our deepest condolences with his mother, father and family.”

Tributes also came from his “Star Trek” co-star Zachary Quinto, who described Yelchin as “enormously talented and generous of heart,” and John Cho, who tweeted, “I loved Anton Yelchin so much. He was a true artist — curious, beautiful, courageous. He was a great pal and a great son. I’m in ruins.”

Karl Urban wrote simply, “I can’t believe it, I m fckn hurting bad!”

And “Star Trek Beyond” director Justin Lin tweeted, “Still in shock. Rest in peace, Anton. Your passion and enthusiasm will live on with everyone that had the pleasure of knowing you.”
