Star Trek: CBS & Nickelodeon Developing Animated Series for Younger Viewers

Another Star Trek series is in the works, and it's much different from Star Trek: Discovery and its spinoffs. This new show will be an animated venture for Nickelodeon, not CBS All Access.

Younger viewers will get an opportunity of their own to boldly go with a cartoon fresh from the minds of Kevin and Dan Hagerman. This will be separate from the adult-oriented cartoon Lower Decks, also currently in development. Talks between CBS TV Studios and Nickelodeon are currently underway for the series, which is being planned as a major tentpole series for Nickelodeon. Details about the series are being kept under wraps.

The Hagermans have an extensive career in animation, from both the Ninjago film and animated series to the Netflix original Trollhunters. The brothers are also writing Dreamworks' upcoming animated feature The Croods 2, which is due for release in September 2020. The sequel had originally been set for 2017, but was canceled and later put back into production.

If the animated series is picked up, it will join Lower Decks, Picard, Section 31, Discovery's third season and a spinoff based on Michelle Yeoh's Captain Philippa Georgiou as part of the new push for Star Trek content.
