Star Trek's Urban Hopeful Fourth Movie Will Film Next Year

Karl Urban has never held back on his desire to return as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in another Star Trek movie and now the actor has put fans on alert that the franchise's fourth chapter may well start shooting next year.

"It’s really a question for Paramount (laughs)," he said to JoBlo. "But, that being said, I have such a blast working on those Star Trek movies. You know, that cast, we’re like family at this point. I’m pretty confident within, hopefully the next year, that we’ll be back on the set."

Justin Lin took over the series after J.J. Abrams rebooted it, helming with the third film, Star Trek Beyond, but after its global box office take of $353 million was found to be underwhelming by Paramount Pictures, the studio held off on green-lighting a sequel. So much so that Urban himself stated in the past that as much as he wanted to reprise his role, he wasn't sure what was up with the franchise's future.

Chris Pine (James Kirk) and Zachary Quinto (Spock) did sign on for a fourth film, but Quinto himself also stated that it wasn’t a guarantee. Abrams, who remains a producer, has even said that the new movie would focus on legacy with Chris Hemsworth returning to play Captain Kirk’s father, George. Well, it seems that everyone's ready and it's now on the studio to get Star Trek 4 out the dockets.
