Chris Pine is hopeful that changes at Paramount Pictures could lead to Star Trek 4 finally getting off the ground.

"I’m like the last person to find anything out," Pine said on the Things Are Going Great for Me podcast. "I know that Paramount is coming out of having restructured a bit and kind of a major corporate restructuring. So hopefully when all that dust settles, something concrete will come out of it and we’ll get to work. I’d love to do it."

Previously, fellow Star Trek actor Simon Pegg offered hope that another adventure set in the Kelvin timeline could be in the works. "We're all still in contact, we were emailing with each other the other day, just checking in, 'how are we,' and stuff," he said. "But it's not like any of us have been banging on the door at Paramount saying, 'Hey, when are we doing this?' If they say, 'We'd like to do another movie,' I'm sure we'll all jump at the chance. I miss those guys, and I love making those films."

Pine played James Tiberius Kirk in Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. Previously, Pine was set to return for Star Trek 4, written by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay and directed by S.J. Clarkson. However, the project was shelved in 2019.

Star Trek 4 is one of a number of potential Star Trek projects in development. Others include an R-rated Star Trek film written by Mark L. Smith that was once intended to be a Quentin Tarantino directorial effort. There is also a Star Trek movie from writer/director Noah Hawley that was reportedly put on the back-burner recently.
