Guardians of the Galaxy #9 recently revealed that Peter Quill -- aka Star-Lord -- is bisexual, and currently in a polyamorous relationship. However, the hero could have been in a same-sex relationship much earlier.

Artist Kris Anka revealed that he and Chip Zdarsky, the creative team behind Marvel's Star-Lord ongoing series in 2016, had developed and designed a character intended to be a love interest for Quill. Anka posted the character's design on Twitter, who has circuitry inlaid in his body as well as a yellow and black jacket designed to reveal his chiseled physique.

Zdarsky and Anka's Star-Lord series spun out of events of writer Brian Michael Bendis' Guardians of the Galaxy series, which saw the Guardians stranded on Earth following Civil War II. Quill struggled to adapt to life on Earth, eventually becoming a bartender and dealing with cosmic threats. The series lasted for six issues, as well as an annual.

In Guardians of the Galaxy #9, Quill found himself in the mythical land of Morinus after he sacrificed himself to stop the New Olympians. While there, he befriended two humanoids -- one named Arcadia, who is a woman, and Mors, who is a man. After twelve years together, Quill started a romantic relationship with Mors and Arcadia.

Written by Al Ewing, alongside artists Juan Cabal and Federico Blee, Guardians of the Galaxy #9 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
