Fans can get a better idea of how different Star-Lord could have looked like in his 2014 Marvel Cinematic Universe debutChris Pratt was introduced as the fan-favorite Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy, and has gone on to become one of the franchise's biggest names. The character is well known for his red trench coat and sci-fi helmet, but he went through a series of designs before settling on the look fans know.

Charlie Wen, former head of Marvel Studios' visual department, shared his early design for Star-Lord, which included a more comics-accurate look. Featuring a military version of Quill's coat, it also comes complete with an Ultron-esque helmet and a look that is closer to his arrival in 1976's Marvel Preview #4.

Only recently, Wen shared his original concept art that was used to promote Guardians of the Galaxy and featured Star-Lord riding a speeder. While Wen helped with the early ideas for the Guardians of the Galaxy, his designs evolved into what was used in the finished product. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios veteran Ryan Meinerding also shared his own comic book-inspired version of Star-Lord.

The MCU is known for putting its own spin on Marvel characters, while other Guardians teammates like Gamora and Mantis famously look different to their comic book counterparts. Adapting the Guardians of the Galaxy was already an out-there move, but the concept artists decided to distance the movie even further from the comics.

Star-Lord is among the characters missing in action after the tragic events of Avengers: Infinity War, but is expected to return in time for the sequel.
