During the 91st Academy Awards, Marvel legend Stan Lee was honored during the ceremony's "In Memoriam" segment, which annually pays tribute to the members of the entertainment industry who passed away over the past year.

During the video package, a photo of Lee was shown alongside his name and his credits as both a comic book writer and an executive producer. Additionally, Lee was one of the select few honored to receive an added clip from a piece of his work, which, in Lee's case, was taken from his cameo in the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand.

As a comic book writer, Lee co-created some of Marvel's most iconic superheroes, including the Avengers, Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Black Panther, among many others. Lee also served as Marvel Editor from 1941 to 1942 and 1945 to 1972, and Publisher from 1972 to 1996, in addition to becoming Chairman in 1986.

However, it's worth noting the Steve Ditko, Spider-Man's other co-creator, was not included in the montage. Although he didn't have an active role in film development, he also died in the past year at age 90.

Given how integral he was at Marvel Comics for many years, Lee also secured himself executive producer credits in just about every single Marvel-based film ever made (Marvel Studios or otherwise.) However, he is better known for making on-screen cameos in many of those films, including the Oscar-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Additionally, the iconic creator is set to make posthumous appearances in the upcoming films Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame.

Lee passed away this past November at the age of 95.
