Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed that Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee's first meeting with current Spider-Man actor Tom Holland resulted in a joke Lee made at Holland's expense.

Gunn recently hosted a Q&A on Instagram, where he answered fan questions on a host of topics. When one fan asked if the filmmaker had any anecdotes to share about Lee, Gunn revealed the incident that occurred with Holland. "I introduced Stan to Tom Holland just after Tom was hired to play Spider-Man," Gunn wrote. "Stan says to him, 'Yes of course! I hear you're great! Personally, I don't see it!' And we all died laughing."

Lee was well-known for his affable nature and propensity for jokes. And if any person has a right to comment on an actor's portrayal of Spider-Man, it would be Lee, who, along with Steve Ditko, created the first Spider-Man comic series back in 1962.

In case any Holland fans feel Lee was criticizing the actor, the comics veteran has gone on record that Holland's Spider-Man is his favorite film iteration of the character yet. Back in 2018, Lee wrote on Twitter, "I think Tom Holland is a great Spider-Man. He is the exact height and age I envisioned when I first wrote Spider-Man. Spidey was never supposed to be too large."

Starring Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei and Zendaya, the third, yet-to-be-titled MCU Spider-Man film arrives in theaters Nov. 5, 2021.
