Iconic action star Sylvester Stallone will return to the big screen in his first venture into the superhero genre with Samaritan. While the project is not connected to popular franchises, director Julius Avery recently suggested that it will be comparable in terms of action.

In a recent interview, Avery teased, "This is a big event movie – we see our heroes kicking ass." He then praised Stallone's performance in the film and hinted at the uniqueness of some of Samaritan's action sequences, stating, "We're going to see Sly do things he hasn't done in a long time, and in a really inventive way. He's 73 years old! I'm amazed by how much he actually does. I'm telling you, most guys in their twenties wouldn't be able to do what Sly does in this movie."

The upcoming film centers sees a young boy discover that he lives next door to a superhero who seemingly disappeared 20 years ago. Avery previously explained that Samaritan will be a more grounded superhero film.

Samaritan is directed by Julius Avery based on a script by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room). Sylvester Stallone will produce and star in the film, alongside actors Javon Walton, Martin Starr, Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco and Moises Arias. The film currently has no release date.
