Lawyer, politician and voting rights activist Stacey Abrams is using Star Trek as a metaphor for her campaign for Governor of Georgia.Abrams has been a state representative for Georgia and ran for the governorship 2018, narrowly losing to Republican Brian Kemp. But what Abrams is even more famous for is helping to turn the state of Georgia blue during the 2020 election, narrowly winning the state for Joe Biden and flipping the Senate over to the Democrats in a special election. Now, Abrams is running for Governor again -- and she's using her love of Star Trek to advertise her campaign. In a video posted to Abrams' Twitter, she compares herself to Captain Kathryn Janeway, the captain from Star Trek: Voyager. "She is someone who had to take on a fairly dramatic challenge," Abrams explained in the video. "Very few resources, underestimated, and find a way to get back to the people that she loved and make sure she kept her folks safe. I would like to think I did her credit when I ran."RELATED: Star Trek: The Motion Picture's Long-Awaited Director's Edition Finally Sets Premiere Date

As of late, Abrams has been open about her love of nerd culture -- and it landed her a cameo in the Season 4 finale of Star Trek: Discovery, in which she played the President of United Earth. Shortly after the 2020 election ended, Abrams shifted back into tweeting her opinions on her favorite television shows. At one point she even got dragged into a discussion about Buffy the Vampire Slayer and explained why she prefers Spike as a boyfriend for Buffy over Angel. "To be fair, Angel was the right boyfriend for Buffy coming into her power. Spike was the right man to be with as she became the power." Many agreed with her analysis, including series creator Joss Whedon. However, David Boreanaz, who played Angel in the series and its spinoff, was very public with his disagreement.

Abrams was also a huge fan of Supernatural, which came to the attention of creator Eric Kripke shortly after the show ended its run. Kripke tweeted to Abrams after reading about her love of the show, to which Abrams responded, ""Y'all came into my life during the 2018 Gov primary & never left. Smart, funny, irreverent & so terrifically kind in its forgiveness of mistakes, hubris + human error. #SPNFamilyForever." Abrams was ultimately invited to the first reunion of the Supernatural cast, which was turned into a fundraiser for Abrams' organization, Fair Fight.

The 2022 Georgia gubernatorial election will take place on Nov. 8, 2022.
