Squirrel Girl is one of the most deceptively powerful characters in Marvel canon and, as such, has a surprising stack of wins on her resume against some game competition. For a character whose superpower is talking to squirrels, she is far stronger than casual observers might imagine.

Behind a bubbly and hyperactive personality lies one of the Marvel world's finest heroes, ready to kick butt and eat nuts (per her catchphrase) whenever the opportunity presents itself. All of these attributes have opened doors for some wholesome and wholly entertaining comic storylines in the character's history.

10 Squirrel Girl Beats Up The Marvel Universe!

While not nearly as explicitly, well, explicit as Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe, this graphic novel depicts an instance where Tony Stark's High Evolutionary device glitches out and creates an exact clone of Squirrel Girl.

This good-intentioned clone comes to the conclusion that everything bad and evil in the world was produced by humans and the only way to restore order is for the world to be run by squirrels. So, naturally, she kickstarts a mission to beat up and imprison all humans and superheroes who get in her way.

9 The Great Lakes Avengers

There have been a countless number of sister teams to The Avengers. Both the East Coast and West Coast Avengers both have a high profile reputation in comic history, but few fans talk enough about The Great Lakes Avengers.

This team— which included not only Squirrel Girl, but people like Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Grasshopper, Doorman, and Monkey Joe— essentially consisted of some of the misfits within the Marvel Universe. These oddballs made a great team and their stories are where the best of Squirrel Girl often shined. She ended up voluntarily leaving the team, but before she did, she won big battles against the likes of M.O.D.O.K.

8 Choose Your Own Story

Anyone who grew up on the always classic "Choose Your Own Adventure" novels surely got a kick out of Ryan North, Erica Henderson, and Rico Renzi re-introducing the concept for the seventh issue of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

While less of a storyline and more of a one-off tale, the concept was executed well enough to deserve plenty of kudos. This issue sees Squirrel Girl and her trusty aquatic pal Koi Boi facing off against The Swarm, a Nazi made out of bees.

7 Nanny For The Avengers

Between 2010 and 2012, during her time as a member of the New Avengers in the comic series of the same name, Squirrel Girl often found herself on the sidelines babysitting Danielle Cage, the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones.

Admittedly, this is less of a "storyline" and more of a recurring story occurrence as her appearances are minor and contained to only a couple of chapters every other issue, but much like the character herself, they're cute and wholesome enough to consider them quintessential content for Squirrel Girl fans.

6 Her Origin Story

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Squirrel Girl first being introduced in the comics, Marvel decided it was time to finally give Doreen Allene Green an origin story, with an entire issue dedicated to her humble life beginnings.

The story shows Squirrel Girl as she goes from discovering her powers to being a part of her first mission with her first sidekick— Monkey Joe— and helping Hulk in a fight with Abomination, all in a span of about five years. For anyone looking for a place to start their Squirrel Girl story addiction, this is it.

5 Girl Squirrel Vs. Squirrel Girl

From one Avenger team up to another, Squirrel Girl spent issues seven and eight of her comic having joined forces with Thor and— believe it or not— Loki to defeat a shapeshifting Asgardian named Ratatoskr who had been masquerading on Midgard as a superhero named Squirrel Girl, all a part of a master plan that Loki had forgotten about long ago.

In the background, the story also did a surprisingly good job of humanizing Loki, particularly through how he befriended Squirrel Girl's college friend, Nancy.

Fast forward a few issues later to #45, where circumstances of the story reunite Squirrel Girl with Ratatoskr— but this time, rather than sparring against each other, the two must reluctantly work together to save the day.

The odd couple pairing is incredibly entertaining, not only because of the humor that stems from it but because it offers fans the rare sight of a frustrated Squirrel Girl as she tries to keep Ratatoskr on the straight and narrow while the latter refuses to play by the rules.

3 Dinosaur Ultron

Dinosaur Ultron holds Squirrel Girl in its tiny tyrannosaurus hands, while she punches him, to no effect

In case it isn't obvious by now, Squirrel Girl's stories have a knack for trying to humanize and empathize with villains. Squirrel Girl had her work cut out for them when an amnesiac Ultron— who becomes a dinosaur because why not?— entered the picture in route on a trip to Savage Land.

While Squirrel Girl was not as lucky to redeem Ultron, the story does end poignantly when Ultron is reduced to a core USB drive given to Squirrel Girl's mother in hopes of the self-rebooting A.I. to be molded into a more loving, peaceful character while growing and being raised in a more loving, peaceful environment.

2 Kraven's Redemption Arc

Kraven the Hunter has hunted just about every animal or superhero-human-hybrid by now, but by the time he meets Squirrel Girl, he's committing to a redemption arc. Through friendship, she goes from trying to bring Kraven to justice to trying to convince him to become a redeemed superhero, which he eventually does as The Unhuntable Sergei.

As a means of re-contextualizing Kraven the Hunter as someone who is not only likable but worthy of change, this is a genuinely great arc that highlights how Squirrel Girl's skills as a mediator and confidante can be even more effective than any superpower.

1 Squirrel Girl Meets Galactus

squirrel girl and galactus talk

She's called The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl for a reason, in part because she's deceptively powerful in ways beyond just physical strength. This fact was showcased in a storyline that put her face to face with one of the most powerful characters in all of Marvel lore.

Their meeting was first teased in the premiere issue of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl before they finally met in the fourth. Miraculously, she defeated him, but not with fists or kicks— with kindness and empathy. By befriending Galactus and offering a shoulder to cry on, Galactus decides not to devour the earth. As it turns out, Galactus isn't that evil. He's just hungry.
