Spy x Family gets ready to kick off Jump Festa 2022 with the release of new visuals for the upcoming anime.
Twitter user @AniNewsAndFacts uploaded four new promotional illustrations from the action-comedy manga's anime adaptation, which were released to promote the series' presentation at this year's Jump Festa. The pictures center around the Forger family-- Anya Forger, Loid Forger and Yor Forger-- the main characters of the series.
Spy x Family's upcoming adaptation will be a joint production created by animation studios Wit (Ranking of Kings, Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song) and CloverWorks (Horimiya, The Promised Neverland). It will be directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, an experienced veteran with a respected history in the industry, having worked on projects such as Rurouni Kenshin and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
The original Spy x Family manga is written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo. It began serialization on Mar. 25, 2019, through Shueisha's online magazine, Shonen Jump +, where it continues to publish new chapters to this day. At the time of writing, a total of eight volumes compiling 53 chapters have been released. Fans and critics have praised Spy x Family for its engaging characters, well-delivered humor and entertaining story. The series has also sold over 12.5 million copies as of November 2021, with its sixth book ranking as the 27th best-selling manga volume of 2021.
Spy x Family is set on the backdrop of a brewing conflict between the fictional nations of Ostania and Westalis. Though there remains a tenuous truce between the two countries, dissidents on both sides seek to push the two powers into an all-out war. Enter Agent Twilight, a spy working for an organization whose aim is to keep the nations at peace. When a new mission requires that he craft a disguise as a normal family man, Twilight takes on the name of Loid Forger, and he adopts a girl named Anya, a psychic, and hastily marries a woman named Yor, who is secretly a famous assassin.
A presentation for the Spy x Family anime will be held on Jump Festa 2022's Super Stage this Dec. 18 at 9:00 am JST, where the voice actors of Anya Forger and Yor Forger will also be revealed. Fans unable to attend the event in person may stream it live through Jump Festa's official YouTube channel and website. Though the anime has no specific release date, Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will stream Spy x Family as part of its 2022 lineup.
