Spy x Family is a smash-hit shonen anime from the Spring 2022 anime season that invites viewers into an exciting world of Cold War-inspired intrigue and action between the feuding nations of Westalis and Ostania. These nations are on the verge of war, so it falls to Westalis superspy Twilight to discover Ostania's deepest secrets and prevent disaster.

Now going by the moniker of Loid Forger the psychiatrist, Twilight has undertaken the mission Operation Strix, requiring him to create a fake family so he can get closer to his target Donovan Desmond, a top-ranking Ostanian official. Such a mission calls for a cool, calculating person who can think on their feet and plan ahead for any and all situations, and Loid's MBTI proves he's up to the task.

Loid Forger's MBTI Personality Type: INTJ, The Architect

Loid thinking outside

Spy x Family's Loid can best be described as the INTJ (Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging) Architect. This is one of the rarer MBTI types overall, but it only takes a few Architects for a company or nation to reshape the world with incredible new ideas and inventions. In the right occupation, an INTJ can have a profound impact on a company or society as a whole, always thinking up new systems and ideas to move humanity forward. Not all INTJs are so grandiose in their ambitions or occupations, but all Architects have an "if I can dream it, I can do it" attitude. Their primary tools are their imaginations and rational thinking skills.

The INTJ type is roughly similar its cousin, the ISTJ Logistician type, with both types being dedicated thinkers and planners who take far more satisfaction in completing a project than having lots of friends or getting in touch with their emotional side. The main difference is that while an ISTJ is more about daily work and management, an INTJ is more like an aloof dreamer, someone who explores possibilities of systems, patterns and novel concepts. They are always seeking newer and better ways to do things or understand the world around them, and they are never the complacent type. INTJs are quick to question the systems or ideas around them and offer new ones, and they spend a lot of time in their own heads.

On the upside, INTJs can do the work of an entire team of people, tirelessly exploring new ideas and developing systems that make everything else possible. They are the ones who let civilization advance, and on a smaller scale, they are predisposed toward math and science-oriented work. INTJs are rational and practical, rejecting inefficient or outdated ideas in favor of new ones, allowing them to breathe new life into stale companies or governments. These Architects have original and creative ideas every day, forgoing most activities in favor of sheer brainstorming.

On the downside, Architects have trouble getting along with others, since they might develop a superiority attitude and reject others' ideas too quickly. This can cause trouble at the workplace, and not all Architects are team players or born leaders. They're better off alone, but that comes with its own problems. INTJs often have fairly weak social skills, and a lack of charisma might hold them back. No one will listen to their cool ideas if they are conceited, awkward or combative in a conversation.

Loid Forger As An Architect In Spy X Family

While the INTJ can be stereotyped as a lone genius daydreaming about rocket science or new political theories, Loid proves in Spy x Family that INTJs can think both big and small, and do their best to take life as it comes. INTJs are not robots -- they only have a preference for logic, exploring possibilities and letting the facts speak for themselves.

Loid has a clear goal in mind throughout Spy x Family: to create a world where people like his childhood self don't have to live in fear, misery and violence any longer. Everything he does is for that mission's sake. Loid is being humanitarian in an aloof and logic-driven way as an INTJ, and his methods are also worthy of any Architect. He works as a spy for WISE, carefully gathering intel and piecing together facts and clues to form brilliant plans to neutralize threats to Westalis. The INTJ type thrives on intellectual challenges, and Loid is a master at quickly devising creative solutions and seeing patterns to achieve success.

A prime example is Loid's mission to get close to Donovan Desmond. He used all his wits to convince the lovely Yor Briar into forming a family with him, and he smartly used his foster daughter Anya to get close to Donovan's tsundere son Damian to advance Operation Strix. Loid assesses the operation's current progress time and again, rationally processing all the data to figure out new strategies and theories to get the job done. He won't say or do anything without carefully thinking over the consequences -- both positive and negative -- and he tries hard not to form emotional connections to anyone, even Yor or Anya. In the end though, he loves them like family, and even Architects are capable of love. It just takes awhile.
