The following contains spoilers for Episode 13 of Spy x Family, "Project Apple," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The wait for Spy x Family's second cour is finally over. As the Fall 2022 anime season kicks off, the beloved Forger family returns with even more exciting spy adventures and household fun to look forward to. The premiere of Episode 13 shows that the makeshift family is about to get a little bigger with the introduction of a perfect furry companion for the adorable telepath Anya Forger.

After saving a young boy from drowning and obtaining her first Stella Star in the last few episodes of the anime's first cour, Anya certainly deserves a reward. Loid recognizes that such a reward would keep her motivated toward the ultimate goal of achieving enough Stella Stars to gain access to the Imperial Scholars mixer, a vital part of Operation Strix. As Anya expresses that her heart's desire is a dog at the end of Episode 11, Episode 13 kicks off Loid and Yor's mission to find the perfect family pet.

Spy x Family ep 13 Loid

For Twilight, nothing should be taken too lightly when it comes to his mission, not even adopting a dog. While his search is motivated by his desire to reward Anya and keep her motivated, Loid is determined to find a dog that will be more than a family pet. It must be properly trained and skilled enough to guard his house and protect his family. Though Anya imagines a cute little puppy for her reward, Loid takes his family to look at retired war dogs, all of which look entirely too intimidating for Anya. After recognizing that none of the dogs will do, Loid gets pulled from his current mission into another one, leaving Yor and Anya to continue the dog search on their own.

As the beginning of Episode 13 hints, a nefarious group is using dogs to carry out an assassination on Foreign Minister Brantz. With one of the members in custody, WISE calls in Loid to use his mastery of disguise to trick the young criminal into giving information on his fellow terrorists. Working off a short snippet of footage, Loid replicates the look and demeanor of the group's leader, successfully getting the criminal to reveal that the terrorists' plans are to use dogs strapped with bombs to carry out the assassination. With tensions between the East and West already high, WISE realizes this plot poses a direct threat to political stability, tasking Loid to help them bring the terrorists down.

While Loid's mission in Episode 13 sets up the conflict that will unfold throughout Spy x Family's new arc, it also serves as an introduction to the Forger family's future pet. The giant white dog seen in the series' new opening credits makes its debut as one of the dogs involved in the terrorists' plot. As two of the terrorists' lackeys are walking the dog, he senses that a sign is about to fall on a little boy and escape the lackeys' grasp just in time to save the boy. This scene indicates that the dog holds a special ability similar to Anya's telepathy. Other than elevated intelligence, he seems to have the power of precognition, allowing him to see briefly into the future.

This power is made even more evident when the dog passes by Anya and their eyes meet, causing Anya to read the dog's mind and see a vision of him joining their family. With her interest piqued, Anya follows after the dog, landing her in a dangerous situation. When she gets caught by the terrorists Loid is after, the dog jumps to her rescue. The two combine their abilities to distract the terrorists, allowing them to escape. While the terrorists do catch up with them by the end of the episode, Anya working together with the dog shows they already make a perfect team.

Though the two each have their limitations given age, species and the goofiness of their personalities, Anya's telepathy and the dog's precognition go hand-in-hand, providing a potentially powerful combo for the makeshift spy family. Fans can look forward to the dog officially joining the Forger family in coming episodes. As the second cour continues, Anya and the dog's combination of abilities will likely be a major source of both hilarious antics in the Forger household and help when Anya needs it most.

The second cour of Spy x Family is off to an exciting and adorable start. Though readers of the original manga already know the name of the Forgers' future pet, anime-only fans will have to wait to find out what name Loid, Yor, and Anya settle on when they officially bring their new canine friend home.
