The new anime series is being produced as a collaboration between Wit Studio and CloverWorks. Wit Studio is best known as the animation company that produced the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, and has also produced several other critically acclaimed series' such as Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song and Vinland Saga. CloverWorks is best known for its adaptation of The Promised Neverland and the original anime series Wonder Egg Priority. The show will be directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, who previously directed Getbackers and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

Spy X Family tells the story of Loid Forger, codename "Twilight," a world renowned spy who has never failed a single mission. Forger is tasked with going under cover and getting close to an official from an enemy country, but in order to do so, he needs to pretend that he's the head of a happy, traditional household. Loid attempts to put together the most normal, least-suspicious family he can find, but he unknowingly picks an infamous assassin to be his new wife, and the seemingly innocent daughter he adopts is actually a test subject with psychic powers who escaped from a government laboratory.

The series was originally published on Shonen Jump+, the online-only spinoff of Shueisha's popular Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Since its original publication in 2019, the manga has received widespread critical acclaim and has sold over 11 million copies. The series was nominated for an Eisner Award this year, but lost to Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man, which also has an anime adaptation in production. Interestingly, Endo previously worked under Fujimoto as an assistant on the Fire Punch manga.

The English localization of Endo's Spy X Family manga is available both digitally and in print from VIZ Media.
