Spy x Family is a popular new shonen anime series inspired by author Tatsuya Endo's ongoing manga series of the same name, taking place in a Cold War-inspired setting with the nations of Westalis and Ostania bitterly feuding in the shadows. In the middle of all this is the "found family" of the Forgers, with the lovable Anya Forger being the family's daughter.
Anya is a telepathic child whose mission is to succeed at the Eden Academy school and get closer to Damian Desmond so her father, Loid Forger, can approach Damian's son Donovan. None of this will be easy for Anya, but she's trying her best. All that should remind anime fans of My Hero Academia's own child prodigy, Eri. These talented girls have a lot in common.
10 Anya & Eri Both Have Unusual Abilities
The anime world is populated with many superpowed children who are strong beyond their years. Anya Forger and Eri can both be counted among them. These young girls both have remarkable abilities that no one else in their respective universes have or even fully understand.
Anya is a skilled telepath, and she can read anyone's mind at will, even Loid's or Yor's. Meanwhile, Eri has the incredible Rewind Quirk, which allows her to reset a person's physical state to heal them or undo their Quirk.
9 Anya & Eri Are Sometimes Overwhelmed By Their Powers
Anime superpowers can be a lot of fun or allow the wielder to win any fight, but these powers come at a cost, especially for youngsters who don't have much practice using them. Such is the case for both Anya and Eri, who often find their powers to be a burden.
Anya was overwhelmed by ambient thoughts when she went to Eden with her classmates, and it strained her mind until she got used to it. Eri has it even worse, knowing that her powerful Quirk can easily go haywire and erase someone entirely or cause them serious harm. Eri is afraid to use her Quirk at all.
8 Anya & Eri Were Both Experimented On
Unfortunately, naturally gifted characters like Anya Forger and Eri might be exploited or turned into test subjects, and sure enough, there were those who sought to weaponize Anya and Eri. Anya spent some time in an Ostania lab before ending up in an orphanage, and no way would Anya ever return to that life.
Then there's the innocent Eri, who the villain Overhaul saw as a gold mine of unique Quirk power. For many months, Overhaul tinkered with Eri to create Quirk-nullifying bullets from her Rewind ability, and Eri hated every minute of it. Eri &
7 Eri & Anya Have Poor Academic Performance
Anya and Eri have remarkable superpowers, but those don't translate into good grades. Both girls are weak when it comes to studying and writing, and this is actually a charming running joke for Anya, who is hopeless at school without reading her classmates' minds to cheat.
Eri is more tragic. She received a token education at best in Overhaul's base, to the point she can only write in hiragana characters and has messy handwriting. She is also ignorant of the outside world, getting Christmas and Easter mixed up. She wouldn't do well in Eden Academy.
6 Eri & Anya Were Both Rescued
Eri and Anya didn't stand a chance on their own, given their youth and lack of experience or resources. Some anime kids like Toph Beifong and the eclectic Killua Zoldyck effectively rescued themselves, but Anya and Eri needed someone older to save them from their dire circumstances.
Anya wouldn't have gotten very far without the Wesalis spy Loid Forger adopting her from that orphanage. And in the MHA world, Eri's torment would have continued if not for Mirio Togata and Izuku fighting to rescue her as true heroes. They swore to save her, and they did just that.
5 Eri & Anya Have Paternal Figures Looking After Them
Anya and Eri both owe a lot to their rescuers, who did more than save them from trouble. Loid Forger, Mirio, and Izuku all personally cared for these endangered girls and comforted them, meaning Anya and Eri look up to them as big brothers or fathers.
Anya is deeply loyal to her foster father Loid Forger and sees him as a hero in every sense. Meanwhile, Eri is closely attached to both Izuku and Mirio, whom she views as protective big brothers. They may not be a foster family, but they've got a tight bond all the same.
4 Anya & Eri Like To Have Fun
Anya and Eri are both tragic anime children, but they aren't always down in the dumps about it. Despite their mental scars and past traumas, these kids like to have fun in their everyday lives, and their respective caretakers obliged them both. Loid and Yor, often take Anya to exciting and classy places all over Berlint.
Mirio Togata invited Eri to the UA school festival, where Eri had a blast watching class 1-A's rock and roll performance. Eri also joined class 1-A's and 1-B's Christmas party in the UA dorms, dressed as a pint-sized Santa with Easter eggs.
3 Anya & Eri Are Ignorant Of The World At Large
Not only are Anya and Eri bad at school and handwriting, but they are also generally ignorant to the world around them. Neither of them can be blamed for that, given their difficult upbringing, but at least their caregivers are helping them catch up a bit.
Eri knows very little of the outside world, hence mixing up Christmas and Easter. Then there's Anya Forger, for whom everything is new, from going to restaurants to the museum and the opera. When Anya saw classy art in the museum, she was baffled but delighted, even pointing out a piece of nude art. She could hardly believe that images of nude people even exist.
2 Eri & Anya Have A Heroic Streak
Anya and Eri are both a long way from truly emulating their heroes Loid, Izuku, and Mirio, but these little girls are much braver and bolder than they look, and they have both saved the day, even if they were terrified in the process. Anya took the initiative with a purse thief, for example, and she will always stand up to Damian the petty bully at school.
Eri was the one who held onto Izuku's back and heroically used her Quirk to constantly heal Izuku and thus allowed him to use One For All at 100% to defeat Overhaul in their final battle. If it weren't for Eri, Izuku would have lost that fight, and everyone would have been doomed.
1 Anya & Eri Dress Well
Eri was dressed in a shabby hospital gown and bandages when she first appeared in My Hero Academia, but after her rescue, Eri got a new wardrobe, and she looked great. Eri charmed everyone with her makeover, complete with a red and white outfit and well-groomed hair. No doubt Eri felt much better about her appearance.
Similarly, little Anya got a few fancy new outfits in the Forger family, and not just her Eden Academy uniform. Anya and her foster parents always dress well in classy, 1960s chic clothing. From Loid's tailored suits to Yor's elegant cocktail dresses and most of all, little Anya's stylish outfits. She's one of the trendiest kids in Berlint.
