Whether you need a few laughs or a lighthearted series to lift your spirits, the comedy genre of anime always will have your back. In the past, anime has been a medium for some comedic masterpieces such as Nichijou and Gintama. While humor is subjective, this list is a good start at finding your type of humor this season.

All the anime on this list have a comedy aspect and will begin airing during the spring 2020 season. Anime that began airing prior and continued into the season will not be counted. Be sure to check out all the series that interest you as each anime has a different type of comedy.

10 Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater (Funimation, Animelab)

Kicking off the list is Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater, streaming on Funimation and Animelab. Hina Tsurugi spends her time indoors doing crafts but decides to join the Teibou club. With some convincing from Yuuki, her childhood friend, she learns a new skill in fishing and spends her days in the outdoors. The club features two other members, Makoto Oono and Natsumi Hodaka. Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater will be adapted by studio Doga Kobo.

9 Hamefura: My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Destruction! (Crunchyroll)

Hamefura: My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Destruction! brings laughs to Crunchyroll this spring season. Katarina Claes has been transported to the world of Fortune Lover, her favorite otome game from when she was alive. However, she is the villainess of the game and unless she changes her fate, will wind up exiled or dead.

Katarina as a character is comedic as she often gets into embarrassing situations that can be interpreted wrong. Hamefura: My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Destruction will be adapted by studio Silver Link.

8 Kakushigoto (Funimation, Animelab)

Kakushigoto will be streaming on Funimation and Animelab this season. The anime follows Kakushi Goto, a mangaka known for his explicit material. Kakushi has a daughter named Hime and wants to hide his content from her. The anime follows their hilarious interactions where she becomes close to finding out each episode. Kakushigoto features a father and daughter relationship that will be adapted by studio Ajia-Do.

7 Gleipnir (Funimation)

For fans of blue humor Gleipnir streams on Funimation this spring. The ecchi series follows Shuichi Kagaya, a boy with the power to turn into a monster. Shuichi saves Claire Aoki from an arson attack one day, but Claire notices him in his monster form.

She uses this to blackmail him into getting more information. The two together have comedic interactions but have also have a target on their back as Shuichi isn’t the only one with monster powers. Gleipnir will be adapted by studio Pine Jam.

6 Fruits Basket 2nd Season (VRV, Crunchyroll, Funimation)

Fruits Basket might not be the series you initially think of as a comedy. Known for its romance aspect, the 2019 remake of the popular series with the same name has plenty of comedic interactions between Toru and her housemates. Toru has moved into the Souma household with Kyou, Yuki, and Shigure. If Toru’s antics weren’t enough Shigure is always there to give his two cents as well. Fruits Basket 2nd Season will be adapting its second season on VRV, Crunchyroll, and Funimation this spring. The anime will be adapted by studio TMS Entertainment.

5 SNAFU: My Teen Romantic Comedy 3 (Hidive)

Its in the title, SNAFU: My Teen Romantic Comedy brings comedy to Hidive this season. The series is set at a high school where the Volunteer Service Club helps students in need with whatever problems they may have. Members Hachiman Hikigaya, Yui Yuigahama, and Yukino Yukinoshita come up with some comedic solutions to their problems. These solutions aren’t always conventional or appropriate, but they get the job done. SNAFU: My Teen Romantic Comedy 3 will be adapted by studio Feel.

4 Dropkick on my Devil!! 2: Dash (Crunchyroll)

For fans of slapstick comedy, this is the series for you. Dropkick on my Devil!! 2: Dash is a comedic series about a devil named Jashin-chan. Summoned into the human world by Yurine Hanazono, the only way Jashin-chan can return home is if she kills Yurine.

She uses her signature dropkick but is foiled every time. The series breaks the fourth wall, references other series, and has some comedic satire moments. Dropkick on my Devil!! 2: Dash will stream on Crunchyroll and be adapted by studio Nomad.

3 Food Wars 5th Season (Crunchyroll)

Returning to Crunchyroll for its fifth season, Food Wars returns adding more blue humor to the list. Food Wars as a show is sexual in nature but a lot of the humor comes from the romantic aspect. After being sent to culinary school Souma Yukihira meets new friends and new love interests. Because of Souma’s passion for cooking he’s often misses social cues lost in thought about his passion. This leaves for some comedic interactions between prodigy Erina Nakiri and cooking partner, Megumi Tadokoro. Food Wars 5th Season will be adapted by J.C. Staff studio.

2 BNA (Netflix)

Studio Trigger is releasing a new series this spring titled BNA (Brand New Animal). The series is an original streaming on Netflix following Michiru Kagemori. Michiru is a tanuki (Racoon-dog) hybrid living in Anima City, home to humanoid animals. In Anima City she meets Shiro Ogami, a wolf, but not just an ordinary wolf. Teaming up together Michiru investigates how she became and animal in the first place.

1 Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2nd Season (Funimation)

Rounding out the list is Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2nd Season. The anime is known as a romance drama series, but thanks to side character Chika Fujiwara, has been known for its comedy aspect as well. While the series follows tsunderes Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane trying to force the other to confess their love to each other, it’s Chika who stole the spotlight. Chika’s obliviousness throws a wrench in each of the tsundere’s plans forcing them to adapt at any moment. Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2nd Season will be streamed on Funimation this spring. The anime will be adapted by studio A-1 Pictures.
