SpongeBob SquarePants is one of those animated shows that appeal to both children and adults due to its ability to layer adult humor within childish plotlines. The characters are goofy and lovable and the stories are just interesting enough to keep the attention of fans.
One of the best parts of SpongeBob SquarePants is the consistent influence of music over the years in a variety of different applications. 10 "Spongebob SquarePants" Theme Song
Perhaps the most iconic of the SpongeBob SquarePants songs is the opening title song that explains where SpongeBob lives, and what some of his spongey characteristics are. Every SpongeBob fan can recite the words on command and the opening sequence does a good job of encompassing the goofiness of the show.
This song was technically the first SpongeBob song that fans were introduced to considering it played before the very first episode. Even after over twenty years, fans still love to hear Painty the Pirate asking if the kids are ready.
9 "The Jellyfish Jam"
One of the few songs without words from SpongeBob is the "Jellyfish Jam" and it is a fun instrumental track that subdues the wild and rabid swarm of jellyfish that had taken over SpongeBob's pineapple home. SpongeBob makes a jellyfish friend, and they dance to some club music until SpongeBob goes to bed.
Unbeknownst to SpongeBob, this jellyfish invited all of his jellyfish friends over for a wild and crazy party, trashing SpongeBob's house in the process. He tries to get them to leave by turning off the music, but they fight back and forth until the stereo breaks, sending the jellyfish into a frenzy. Luckily, Gary knows how to drop a beat and SpongeBob was able to feed off of that to lure the jellyfish away.
8 "I'm A Goofy Goober"
The initial version of this song is a childish silly rendition, but at the end of the SpongeBob movie, it's a rock song through and through that SpongeBob actually uses as a means of freeing people from Plankton's control. As he embraces the power of the song, he is imbued with the incredible outfit and guitar seen above.
After channeling the awesome power of being a Goofy Goober, he is able to use his mighty ax to free the people of Bikini Bottom from Plankton's hold. Needless to say, it doesn't end well for Plankton, but SpongeBob has never looked cooler.
7 "This Grill Is Not A Home!"
Despite being bitter foes, Krabs and Plankton play a weekly poker game and Krabs usually walks away with a lot of Plankton's money. However, one fateful poker night, Krabs starts feeling lucky and bets SpongeBob's contract but Plankton ends up winning the pot and SpongeBob's employment in the process.
Unable to cope with the new harsh environment of the Chum Bucket, SpongeBob sings out as he misses Mr. Krabs and Krabs does the same as he burns the food SpongeBob would normally cook to perfection. This song is a wonderful love ballad between boss and employee.
6 "Campfire Song Song"
This song starts out innocently enough, but by the end, it's impossible to not join in singing with its catchy tune and infectious spelling rhythms. Squidward remains unimpressed as SpongeBob's singing gets faster and faster, with Patrick struggling to keep up.
Squidward barely moves a muscle during the entirety of the song, but SpongeBob's enthusiasm makes this song a popular one among the fanbase. It's also a great song to pull out of one's hat on a camping trip with friends.
5 "Doing The Sponge"
In some unexpected way, SpongeBob gets recruited to take Pearl (his boss's daughter) to her school dance and tries to not embarrass her while they're there. He finds out that she is interested in someone tall, dark, and handsome, so he does his best to look the part.
However, none of that works and Pearl gets upset with SpongeBob, reducing him to an emotional wreck in the bathroom. Pearl eventually apologizes, resulting in SpongeBob re-entering the dance floor only to lead a wild and crazy dance that only he and Pearl can successfully and safely attempt, called "The Sponge."
4 "Krusty Krab Pizza"
Unfortunately, the Krusty Krab Pizza didn't last long on the menu, but fans got a pretty fun song out of it so it wasn't a total waste. It's not even so much a complete song as much as it's just SpongeBob repeating the same one or two lines in a variety of ways.
Despite not being a formal song, it's one of the more known musical numbers from SpongeBob. Considering the Krusty Krab Pizza was such a big deal (despite its short run), it's no surprise that it stuck in the minds of fans even after so many years.
3 "Ripped Pants"
It's never fun to rip one's pants; however, SpongeBob manages to use this to his advantage to get some laughs rather than be embarrassed. Though eventually his ripped pants shenanigans get too theatrical and he alienates the other lagoon goers, including Sandy.
Despite his embarrassment and rejection, SpongeBob engages in a smooth summer song with other lagoon rejects, eventually winning everyone back to his side. The song concludes with him ripping his underpants and they shoot off, causing SpongeBob to blush before the episode ends.
2 F.U.N.
"F" is for friends who do stuff together, "U" is for you and me, "N" is for anywhere and anytime at all down here in the deep blue sea. However, when Plankton gives it a try, his definition of fun is much less fun and much more destructive. Eventually, SpongeBob helps Plankton learn the true meaning of friendship and fun... or so he thought.
It's revealed that Plankton had been deceiving SpongeBob in order to get closer to the Krabby Patty secret formula. While everything worked out for Krabs in the end, Plankton was almost accidentally eaten by Bubble Bass.
1 The Band Geeks Cover Of "Sweet Victory"
It's hard to mention SpongeBob songs without "Sweet Victory" coming up, mainly because of how incredibly it was performed by SpongeBob and company during the Bubble Bowl. Squilliam was so shocked that it literally gave him a heart attack.
This song may not be a SpongeBob original, but the song is truly a staple in the SpongeBob fandom. It's unfortunate that the NFL was never able to successfully pull off a Bubble Bowl duplicate, but the fact that it was even on the table indicates how much SpongeBob and its music have impacted fans of all ages.
