Darren Lynn Bousman, director of the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw, knows what he wants to do next: tackle the cult favorite Leprechaun franchise. On Twitter, Bousman publicly asked Lionsgate if the studio would let him take a shot at the series and try "a little something something" with it. He added that he was "Just saying?! (For the past ten years)."RELATED: Syfy Reviving Leprechaun Horror Franchise for Spring 2019 TV Movie

Lionsgate's response made it seem like the studio was interested in what he had to say. Bousman then posted that progress was happening on his idea, capping off the Tweet with the hashtag #DarrenwantstheLeprechaun.

The original Leprechaun was a 1993 horror comedy in which the titular diminutive fiend (played by Warwick Davis) menaced a group of teenagers at a North Dakota farmhouse, one of whom was played by a then-unknown Jennifer Anniston. The film earned negative reviews upon its release but became a cult classic, spawning five sequels and two reboot movies. The most recent film, Leprechaun Returns, aired on Syfy in 2018, and director Steven Kostanski has expressed his desire to make another.

Bousman's most recent film, Spiral, is his fourth entry in the Saw franchise, having previously directed Saw II, III and IV. Spiral was originally set to be released on May 15, 2020, but its release was delayed by Lionsgate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, Spiral: From the Book of Saw stars Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols and Zoie Palmer. The film arrives in theaters May 21.
