Spike Lee hasn't ruled out the possibility of directing a film for Marvel Studios.
While discussing his time directing Da 5 Bloods as part of EW's A Celebration of Black Film, Lee was asked if he would ever direct a superhero film. "I have nothing against Marvel," he said. "I grew up reading Spider-Man comic books. To me, DC Comics was always corny."
He continued, "I'm just saying. I was all about Marvel. If the right opportunity comes across, I'm not campaigning for it, but I will give it consideration."
Lee worked with the Marvel Cinematic Universe star, the late Chadwick Boseman, in Da 5 Bloods, making it one of the actor's last performances on the big screen. "Chadwick meant a lot to people," Lee said while discussing the actor's work in his film. "I knew he would be great in Da 5 Bloods because Stormin' Norman is a heroic character," he added. "Chadwick comes with that kind of weight. When our brother made his transition from the physical world to the spiritual world, my wife and I went back and watched Da 5 Bloods. It was a different film."
In addition to Lee, A Celebration of Black Film features interviews and profiles with prolific Black actors and directors in the industry, including Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse co-director Peter Ramsey and Mahershala Ali -- who will play Blade in an upcoming film from Marvel Studios.
