Director Spike Lee has denied he's in talks to direct a film based on Marvel's Nightwatch for Sony Pictures.

While promoting his new film The BlackKklansman, Lee spoke with Screen Rant about his admiration for Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, and dismissed reports that he's working on Nightwatch, planned as part of Sony's so-called "Spider-Verse." When asked about it, Lee replied with simply, "Nah."

Believed to be in development by Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, the film centers on the Marvel Comics antihero who fights crime using a technologically advanced suit he recovered from an alternate-future version of himself.

Nightwatch is planned as part of a shared cinematic universe featuring ancillary Spider-Man characters, beginning with Tom Hardy's Venom. The next entry is expected to be Morbius the Living Vampire, starring Jared Leto, followed by films featuring the likes of Black Cat, Silver Sable and Kraven the Hunter. Morbius is in pre-production, and is targeted to begin filming in February.

Directed by Spike Lee, The BlackkKlansman stars John David Washington, Adam Driver, Laura Harrier and Topher Grace. The film is now playing in select theaters.
