None of the entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has created such massive speculation as Spider-Man: No Way Home. From analyzing frames of a trailer to uncovering the truth behind who could be in the film, there is a mystery for every type of fan. However, there are certain moments within the released footage that offer true Easter eggs for dissection. One in particular could even reference two of Spider-Man's most beloved amazing friends.

When Peter Parter first meets Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus in the trailer, he dons his Iron Spider suit and tries to evade the tentacled menace. Octavious throws a car bearing the license plate number ASM8183. Upon first glance, this could be a nod to a collection of issues from The Amazing Spider-Man, which features multiple villains. However, the numbers could also refer to the early-1980s animated series, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

Premiering in 1981, the Saturday-morning cartoon followed the adventures of Spider-Man as he teamed up with his mutant friends, Iceman and Firestar. Students at Empire State University, the three heroes lived together in rooms rented from May Parker, and faced a series of villains, from the Green Goblin and Chameleon to Swarm and Dracula. While the Easter egg could be a coincidence, this wouldn't mark the first time director Jon Watts has used license plates to connect the film to Marvel comics.

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, many license plates are seen in the film feature ASM followed by a number to signify the first appearance of the film's enemies. For example, when Molten Man appears, a car is shown with a license plate mirroring the character's first appearance. While they hold no water to the larger MCU, they serve as ingenious ways to connect the films to the source material. Granted, it seems likely that the one shown in the No Way Home trailer is likely following the same tradition; certain factors say otherwise.

Spider-Man and his Amazing friends

The most integral reason the license plate could be a reference to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends is because it's been confirmed that mutants are coming to the MCU. For now, there's no concrete game plan of what to expect or when to expect it. That said, Marvel can still nod to its future in creative ways. If the plate is referencing Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, fans will likely think of mutants next. However, in a more literal sense, the Easter egg could also reference Peter's current friends Ned and MJ, who play prominent roles in the action-packed trailer.

The overall tone of the Spider-Man franchise in the MCU is fun. That same mission statement could also translate into the film's Easter eggs. By (seemingly) referencing a classic series like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, fans know that whatever is coming involves a team-up of some sort. It also nods to the mutants that rounded out the trio in the series. Whether referencing the coming wave of mutants in the MCU, rumors of more Spider-Men or Peter's friends, it's clear the brief Easter egg exists, at the very least, to remind fans of why Spider-Man is such a fun character.

Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters Dec. 17.
